Football Recap: Maconaquah Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Maconaquah had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They blew past the Wabash Apaches 61-20. The Braves haven't had any issues with the Apaches recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Maconaquah's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Marcell Sims led the charge by picking up 156 receiving yards and three scores, while also rushing for 94 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries. Sims really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 92 yards. Aiden Robinson was another key signal caller, throwing for 518 yards and five TDs while completing 76.9% of his passes.

Maconaquah's run defense was locked in: Wabash could only muster three yards per carry. While eight picked up at least two total tackles, Sims stood above the rest. He picked up 156 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 94 yards and three scores on only eight carries. Maconaquah didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 14.6.

Maconaquah's defense didn't let Haiden McWhirt., get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as five different players picked up one apiece.

Although Wabash took the loss, they still got scores from Jacob White, Davon Osborn, and Noah Baldwin.

Coming up, Maconaquah will welcome Carroll at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Wabash, they are taking a road trip to square off against North Miami at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
