Leesville Road has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge The Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Thursday, Leesville Road got themselves on the board against Athens Drive, but Athens Drive never followed suit. They really took it to the Jaguars for the full four quarters, racking up a 64-0 win at home. Leesville Road pushed the score to 49-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Athens Drive had no chance of recovering from.
Leesville Road can attribute much of their success to Lyfe Shaw-stephens, who rushed for 62 yards and three touchdowns on only five carries. Jayden lee Perry got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Gibbons had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 41.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They breezed by Broughton on the road to the tune of 63-3. With Cardinal Gibbons ahead 42-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Cardinal Gibbons got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Gannon Jones out in front who threw for 164 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes. Jones was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 50 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Amir Brown, who rushed for 86 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries.
Leesville Road's win was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 47.5 points per game. As for Cardinal Gibbons, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
Leesville Road was taken down by Cardinal Gibbons 38-7 in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Can Leesville Road avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
