After a string of four wins, the Columbiana Clippers's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 45-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mineral Ridge. The contest was a 15-15 toss-up at halftime, but Columbiana was outscored by Mineral Ridge in the second.
When it comes to explaining why Columbiana lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ellie Venezia. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of megan moser, who scored 12 points.
It was another big night for Ava Hulett, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds for Mineral Ridge. Hulett is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. Gianna Gilbert was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Columbiana's loss dropped their record down to 11-2. As for Mineral Ridge, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbiana will take on Lowellville at 6:15 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Lowellville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight last Thursday. As for Mineral Ridge, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome McDonald at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th. McDonald will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 610th, while Mineral Ridge is ranked 209th).
