The Mission Eagles will challenge the Roma Gladiators at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Mission is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Mission's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Juarez-Lincoln 14-0. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Huskies recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Judith Arroyo was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Mission let Ilia Fiscal and Pamela Avalos run wild. Fiscal scored three runs while going 2-for-3, while Avalos scored two runs while going 1-for-2. Aleyda Reyes was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Mission was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in six consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Roma was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cigarroa. That's two games in a row now that the Gladiators have lost by exactly five runs.
Isabella Garza was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. Garza was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Yamilet Garza made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Shaelyn Butler, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Roma's loss dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Mission, their win bumped their record up to 4-6.
Roma's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mission has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Roma, though, as they've been averaging 9.5 hits. Given Mission's sizable advantage in that area, Roma will need to find a way to close that gap.
