The Academy Wildcats suffered their biggest defeat since November 30, 2023 on Monday. They were dealt a 70-33 defeat at the hands of Timnath. The Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-17.
The Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lilly Millan, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Timnath was led to victory by Tiana Guzman and Gretchen Deines. Guzman dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds, while Deines scored 19 points along with three steals. Guzman is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayslee Stone, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
The Academy has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Timnath, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
The Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Jefferson Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 9th. Jefferson Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than The Academy in Colorado (Jefferson Academy is ranked 92nd, while The Academy is ranked 230th). As for Timnath, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rocky Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Rocky Mountain is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
