Pinewood Prep has gone 9-1 against Northwood Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Pinewood Prep Panthers will take on the Northwood Academy Chargers at 6:00 p.m. The last three games Pinewood Prep has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Pinewood Prep took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They skirted past Laurence Manning Academy 3-1. The three-run effort marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Camden Abernathy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northwood Academy). They were the clear victor by a 12-2 margin over Norfolk Christian on Saturday. The Chargers not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since March 19, 2024.
Elijah Flatt made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Flatt was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those stolen bases were his first of the season.
In other batting news, William Rose and Noah Oswald did most of the damage at the plate: Rose went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run, while Oswald went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that Rose brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Zach Welch, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.
Northwood Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
The victory made it two in a row for Northwood Academy and bumps their season record up to 3-4. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing nine hits in those games compared to only 2.4 in the others. As for Pinewood Prep, their record is now 5-2.
Pinewood Prep took their win against Northwood Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-2. Will Pinewood Prep repeat their success, or does Northwood Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
