The Houston County Lions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their 11th straight loss. They lost to Florala on the road by a decisive 64-47 margin. While losing is never fun, Houston County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 460th, while Florala is ranked 99th).
Florala's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dalton Jackson led the charge by scoring 18 points along with six rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jackson has scored all season. Rayshon Coleman was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds.
Houston County bumped their record down to 2-13 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Florala, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Houston County will take on Brantley at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Florala won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Elba at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th. Elba knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Florala likes a good challenge.
