If the Ferndale Wildcats were riding high off their 70-26 takedown of the Laytonville Warriors on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Ferndale took a 51-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hoopa Valley. Ferndale lost against Hoopa Valley in their previous head to head back in January of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 64-45 score last time.
Ferndale's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Prescott Langer, who scored 17 points, and Thomas Fergison who scored 14 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for him.
Hoopa Valley found their leader in underclassman Neil Moon, who scored 12 points. Brandon Romero was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Ferndale has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Hoopa Valley, their victory ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 6-6.
Ferndale will take on Hayfork at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Hayfork's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matches. As for Hoopa Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Del Norte at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Del Norte is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.
