The Roosevelt Teddies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 63-52 to St. Paul Academy-Summit. While losing is never fun, Roosevelt can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 221st, while St. Paul Academy-Summit is ranked 94th).
When it comes to explaining why Roosevelt lost, one person who can't be blamed is Obie Esparza. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points along with five rebounds and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Calvin Peterson, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Roosevelt has not been sharp recently as the team has lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season. As for St. Paul Academy-Summit, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 14-6.
Roosevelt didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 83-59 defeat vs. Robbinsdale Armstrong on the 9th. St. Paul Academy-Summit will be playing in front of their home fans against Math & Science Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in St. Paul Academy-Summit's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 13 games.
