Even though the Sunnyside Wildcats have not done well against the Roosevelt Rough Riders recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Sunnyside came out on top against Roosevelt by a score of 62-54. Winning may never get old, but Sunnyside sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Leading Sunnyside to victory were Tanner Wilson and Malachi Barnes. Wilson scored 21 points, while Barnes scored 22 points. Barnes hasn't dropped below 15 points for four straight games. DJ Johnson was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Several Rough Riders players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was James Miller, who scored 16 points along with six assists and two steals. Miller has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Skylarr Redwood, who scored 18 points along with two blocks.
Sunnyside has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. As for Roosevelt, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-11.
Sunnyside will take on McLane at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully McLane focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Thursday. As for Roosevelt, they will head out on the road to challenge Sanger West at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Sanger West will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1006th, while Roosevelt is ranked 472nd).
