Pine Grove has gone a perfect 8-0 against Wheeler recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Panthers will host the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Pine Grove knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Wheeler likes a good challenge.
It was a proper cat-fight when Pine Grove faced off against Walnut on Monday. The Panthers walked away with a 12-7 victory over the Wildcats.
Ayden Jones was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Riggs Childs was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run. Talen Wilkerson was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Pine Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 12 runs the game before, Wheeler was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They fell just short of Falkner by a score of 3-1. Eagles fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against Falkner since Friday.
Wheeler saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Peirce Spencer, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Pine Grove has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Wheeler, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-7.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Pine Grove has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .440. However, it's not like Wheeler struggles in that department as they've averaged .450. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pine Grove got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2022 against Wheeler by a conclusive 19-4 score. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
