Baseball Recap: West Mesa Takes a Loss

After flying high against Miyamura on Friday, West Mesa came back down to earth. The Mustangs fell 10-6 to the St. Michael's Horsemen on Saturday.

Isaiah Castillo got West Mesa off to a strong start despite the final result, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. The Mustangs are 2-1 when Castillo allows one or fewer earned runs, but 2-4 otherwise.

At the plate, Antonio Gonzales made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Matthew Rodriguez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

West Mesa now has a losing record of 4-5. As for St. Michael's, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Mesa will face off against Cibola at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for St. Michael's, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against East Mountain at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
