Shiprock took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Monument Valley Cougars with a sharp 3-0 victory. For the Chieftains, this counts as revenge for the 3-1 win the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2024.
Shiprock's got stronger as the match went on, holding Monument Valley to fewer and fewer points set over set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 28-26, 25-22, 25-19.
Taleah Phillips paced Shiprock's offense, picking up 18 kills. Phillips got some help from Yonna Etcitty and her 13 assists. Makayla Howard controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.
Shiprock will challenge Wingate at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Monument Valley, they will face off against Whitehorse at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The contest will give the Cougars their first taste of in-conference action this season.
