Rogers (Texas) received a huge boost from its defense against Jarrell (Texas), as the unit scored 12 in defeating Jarrell (Texas), 68-6.
After taking the lead on a defensive touchdown in the first quarter, the Eagles led 33-6 at the half.
Rogers expanded its lead to 55 points entering the fourth quarter. RHS scored four times in the third, including once on a
Trevor Coots touchdown run.
Carson Skala and
Brody Malovets ran for a bunch of touchdowns for the Cougars. Skala scored three touchdowns on the ground and Malovets added two as well.
Houston Stewart made a difference for Jarrell. The junior quarterback caught one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to four on the year.
The Eagles' standout player in the win was Skala. The junior running back caught one touchdown.
JHS's lone touchdown came on a 15-yard pass from undefined to Stewart in the first quarter.
Coming into the game Rogers had allowed 27.6 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding the Cougars below their season average of 10.1 points scored per game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 68-14 win for the Eagles.
Jarrell (2-7) will play a 2A-2 Region IV District 14 game against Schulenburg next week, while Rogers (7-1) will take on Lexington also in a 2A-2 Region IV District 14 game.
