Seguin has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on The Smithson Valley Rangers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Seguin will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 525th, while Smithson Valley is ranked 60th).
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 41-7, which was the final score in Seguin's tilt against Wagner on Thursday. Seguin was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-7.
Despite the loss, Seguin had strong showings from John Jackson, who rushed for 118 yards, and Devin Hall, who rushed for 31 yards and a touchdown. Jackson hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for nine straight games.
Meanwhile, Smithson Valley had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33.9 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They claimed a resounding 47-10 win over Hays at home. The result was nothing new for Smithson Valley, who have now won six matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
Seguin's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 3-6. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Wagner, Canyon, and Boerne-Champion. As for Smithson Valley, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.
Seguin took a serious blow against Smithson Valley in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, falling 56-17. Will Seguin have more luck at home instead of on the road?
