Even though the Southeast Halifax Trojans have not done well against the KIPP P Pride recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Southeast Halifax came out on top against the Pride by a score of 80-73. The victory was familiar territory for Southeast Halifax who now have four in a row.
Leading Southeast Halifax to victory were Travis Johnson Jr. and Trayvese Silver. Johnson Jr. dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Silver dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Johnson Jr. has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyrone Williams Jr., who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds.
Southeast Halifax's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-5. As for KIPP P, they dropped their record down to 7-9 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southeast Halifax won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Warren County is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. As for KIPP P, they will head out on the road to face off against the Tigers at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wilson Prep presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Pride in North Carolina (the Tigers are ranked 66th, while the Pride are ranked 372nd).
