Oak Grove is 0-7 against Willow Glen since February of 2015 but things could change on Monday. The Eagles will welcome the Rams at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with 11 losses in a row, Oak Grove turned things around against Del Mar on Thursday. They came out on top against the Dons by a score of 10-7.
The team relied heavily on Jordan McCoy, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Vierra, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Oak Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Willow Glen came tearing into Friday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Cougars. Five seems to be a good number for the Rams as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Spencer Bartlinski made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Bartlinski was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run.
In other pitching news, Tyson Paganini looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Austin Korba was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played.
Willow Glen pushed their record up to 15-6 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Oak Grove, their victory bumped their record up to 3-17.
Oak Grove suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to Willow Glen in their previous meeting back in February. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
