4A Region 1 recap October 8, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Gunner Roach and Christian Pearsall connected against Monroe County. The longest such play in 4A Region 1 this season, the connection resulted in 57 yards.
Andalusia extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Clarke County, 28-20. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Bulldogs.
UMS-Wright Prep's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Roach threw for 199 and 3 touchdowns and Pearsall had 104 yards receiving. On the ground Troy Dixon contributed 123 yards. Jaylon Jones helped UMS-Wright Prep's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 63 yards.
He was 9-10 with 0 interceptions.
Roach put up the best numbers in passing as the Bulldogs bested the Tigers. Roach's favorite target this week was Pearsall, who caught 4 passes for 104 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, UMS-Wright Prep's Roach and Jones have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-2 quarterback Roach has thrown for 957 yards this season, while Jones has 27 catches for 508 yards. Andalusia's Michael McCalman leads the league in rushing yards with 757.
A big matchup in 4A Region 1 this week will be when Brian Seymore's team takes on Wilcox Central. The Bulldogs are in first place, while the Jaguars are in third place.
Terry Curtis' team took down Monroe County 67-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Roach in the win.
