After flying high against the Columbus Blue Devils last Wednesday, the Dougherty Trojans came back down to earth. Dougherty fell 59-48 to Monroe on Friday. Dougherty was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Monroe apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Despite the loss, Dougherty still got an impressive performance from Kaleke Singletary-Jinks, who scored 15 points. Singletary-Jinks continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Jaion Burns was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Monroe's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lorenzo Still led the charge by scoring 22 points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Justin Burns, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Dougherty's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-6. As for Monroe, the win was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-2.
Dougherty will square off against Early County at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Early County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 169th, while Dougherty is ranked 44th). As for Monroe, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Calhoun County at 7:30 p.m. on January 15th. Calhoun County has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 499 points over their last seven matchups.
