The Zapata Hawks will venture away from home to square off against the Ingleside Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Zapata will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Friday, then bounced right back against King on Tuesday. The Hawks were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Brahmas. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Hawks' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Lauro Guerra made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 15 over 6.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2025. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Ram Garcilazo and Mario Garcia did most of the damage at the plate: Garcilazo went 2-for-3 with two triples and two runs, while Garcia got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Garcia a new career-high. Jay Solis was another key player, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Ingleside hadn't done well against Calhoun recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Mustangs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Sandcrabs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mustangs have posted against the Sandcrabs since March 22, 2022.
Like Zapata, Ingleside also got a great game from a two-way player: Marcus Barron. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Barron has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Barron wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jason Salaiz, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double was Salaiz's first of the season.
With the win, Ingleside broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 10-10-1. As for Zapata, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.
Zapata got the 'W' when the teams last played back in February of 2024 against Ingleside by a conclusive 9-3 score. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
