The Thornton Academy Trojans will challenge the Kennebunk Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Wednesday, Thornton Academy got the win against Deering by a conclusive 18-7. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Trojans.
The team relied heavily on Emma Barnes, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Bogardus, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and one double.
Thornton Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .650. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Kennebunk never let their opponents score on Monday. Everything went their way against Marshwood as they made off with an 11-0 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Rams needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Juliann Pike made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.
In other batting news, Talia Kellum was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mia McCarthy, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Kennebunk has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Thornton Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Thornton Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. However, it's not like Kennebunk struggles in that department as they've averaged .332. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Thornton Academy might still be hurting after the 13-3 loss they got from Kennebunk when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Trojans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
