The Community School of Davidson Spartans came tearing into Tuesday's contest with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 36.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Christ the King 38-35. Given Community School of Davidson's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while Christ the King is ranked 262nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Community School of Davidson was led to victory by Molly Feighery and Tyler Baughan. Feighery dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds, while Baughan scored 17 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Baughan is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least four every time she's taken the court this season. Scarlett Soares was another key contributor, scoring two points along with three steals.
Christ the King lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Audrey Gorman, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Gorman has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Peirce, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Community School of Davidson's victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-1. As for Christ the King, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Community School of Davidson will take on Langtree Charter at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Community School of Davidson is facing Langtree Charter at the right time seeing as Langtree Charter is stuck on a 17-game losing streak. As for Christ the King, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Greater Cabarrus S at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Christ the King focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 on Tuesday.
