Roosevelt is a perfect 10-0 against Wallkill since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Presidents will head out to face off against the Panthers at 4:15 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Roosevelt has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Wallkill will arrive with eight straight victories.
John Jay hit Roosevelt with a four-run seventh inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Presidents came up short against the Patriots, falling 9-1. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Presidents couldn't push the score so high this time.
Roosevelt saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cassandra Carufe, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wallkill). They put the hurt on Washingtonville with a sharp 19-3 win on Tuesday. Considering the Panthers have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Madison Auger made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Wallkill let Ariana Reyes and Charley Callahan run wild. Reyes got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two RBI, and one double, while Callahan went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Gracyn Cadden, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.
Wallkill kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Wallkill's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Roosevelt, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Roosevelt hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326. However, it's not like Wallkill struggles in that department as they've averaged .418. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Roosevelt skirted past Wallkill 9-8 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Presidents since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
