On Tuesday, the Dorman Cavaliers faced the Gaffney Indians in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Dorman was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 48-47 to Gaffney. Dorman's defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Dorman's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rihanna Wallace, who scored nine points along with five assists and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Nakiyah Kelly, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
Dorman struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Gaffney got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tianah Hopper out in front who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Lauren Mathis was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with two steals.
Dorman's loss dropped their record down to 16-9. As for Gaffney, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season.
Dorman will look to defend their home court on Friday against Spartanburg at 6:00 p.m. Dorman is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 55.3 points per game this season. As for Gaffney, they will be playing at home against James F. Byrnes at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Gaffney is on a five-game streak of home wins, James F. Byrnes a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
