Elgin hasn't had much luck against Glenbard East recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Maroons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rams at 4:30 p.m. Elgin has given up an average of 14.5 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Riverside-Brookfield hit Elgin with a 11-run fifth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Maroons lost 19-4 to the Bulldogs. The Maroons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Abigail Mutolo made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Grace Tetrev, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Glenbard East waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They walked away with a 7-2 win over the Blackhawks.
Claire Bolda spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alexis Amrhein, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Althea Fitzgerald was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Glenbard East's victory bumped their record up to 11-2. As for Elgin, their loss dropped their record down to 3-15.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Elgin has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Glenbard East struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Elgin suffered a grim 18-0 defeat to Glenbard East in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Maroons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
