The Dakota Valley Panthers waltzed into their game on Monday with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 64-57 win over West Central. Given Dakota Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while West Central is ranked 77th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Cameryn Sommervold, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Ella Otten was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Dakota Valley's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for West Central, they bumped their record down to 2-6 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Dakota Valley will challenge Tri-Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. West Central won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Dell Rapids at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Dell Rapids has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 7.
