It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Miramonte Matadors ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They walked away with a 74-66 victory over Acalanes. Given Miramonte's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 207th, while Acalanes is ranked 470th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Marcus Robinson, who shot 4-for-9 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 31 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that he pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jack Quinnild, who scored 12 points.
Several Dons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gavin Dodge, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds. Maddox Malm was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with three blocks and two steals.
The win makes it two in a row for Miramonte and bumps their season record up to 15-7. As for Acalanes, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Miramonte will take on Campolindo at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Campolindo is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games. As for Acalanes, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Ygnacio Valley at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Ygnacio Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matchups -- so hopefully Acalanes likes a good challenge.
