Pittsburg got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Rolph (RJ) Mosley Jr. out in front who picked up 119 receiving yards and two scores. Mosley Jr. was no stranger to the big play, connecting on a big catch that went for 53 yards. Isaiah Harrison was in the mix too, providing Pittsburg with two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Pittsburg's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Nico Pavlin, Joshua Manning, and Ha'Angana Tau, who each picked up one sack apiece. Pittsburg got some further help from Pavlin: he picked up a sack and made six total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Liberty blew past Heritage, posting a 59-10 win. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by 31 points or more this season.
Pittsburg better focus on containing Leysen Rodrigues and Jaxon Bell as the pair were huge in Liberty's win. Rodrigues threw for 254 yards and five TDs while completing 77.8% of his passes, while Bell gained 190 total yards and two touchdowns. Bell's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his seventh straight game with at least 105 rushing yards. Another player making a difference was Makoa Barros, who picked up 49 receiving yards and three scores.
Liberty's run defense was locked in: Heritage could only muster -2.7 yards per carry. The team can thank Tasi Mejia for the heroic effort on defense: he. Liberty didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 9.1.
Pittsburg's record is now 9-1. As for Liberty, their record now sits at 8-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Pittsburg has been excellent in the air this season, having averaged 298.5 passing yards per game. It's a different story for Liberty, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 134.8 passing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant passing game?
Pittsburg strolled past Liberty in their previous meeting back in October by a score of 29-12. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Bell, who picked up 179 receiving yards, and also rushed for 105 yards and one touchdown. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Pirates still be able to contain Bell? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
