West Florida has gone 10-0 against Escambia recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The West Florida Jaguars will be playing at home against the Escambia Gators at 6:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Tuesday.
Escambia is hoping to do what Gulf Breeze couldn't on Tuesday: put an end to West Florida's winning streak, which now stands at four games. West Florida blew past Gulf Breeze, posting a 52-19 victory. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while the Dolphins are ranked 487th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead West Florida to victory, but perhaps none more so than Amani Bartholomew, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. Bartholomew also grabbed five steals, which is notable because West Florida is 10-3 when she posts at least five steals, but 2-4 otherwise. Randi Kemp was another key player, putting up six points and six rebounds.
West Florida smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2023.
Meanwhile, Escambia can finally bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They blew past Northview 50-21. That looming 50-21 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Gators yet this season.
West Florida better keep an eye on Brianna Williams. She was instrumental in Escambia's win, dropping a double-double on ten points and 27 rebounds. Williams has been hot, having posted 14 or more boards the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Akiyah Turner, who posted ten points.
West Florida's win bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Escambia, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: West Florida has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 28.9 boards per game. However, it's not like Escambia struggles in that department as they've been averaging 42.8 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for West Florida against Escambia in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, as the squad secured a 60-14 win. In that matchup, West Florida amassed a halftime lead of 28-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
