Big 8 recap October 1, 2013
Carl Junction was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Cassville. The Bulldogs came in at 17 in the state poll after placing at number 33 last week.
Monett added to the longest winning streak in Big 8 this week by beating Aurora, 26-21. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Cubs.
Braxton Graham was a beast in the backfield as Seneca topped McDonald County.
Graham was a passing and rushing force as the Indians defeated the Mustangs. Graham's key target this week was Dalan Merriman, who caught 4 passes for 92 yards.
Alex McMullen made the biggest impact on defense this week as Carl Junction bested the Wildcats. The 5-foot-10 senior.
Skylar Cahill was the best wideout in the league this week as the Houn Dawgs fell to Monett. Cahill racked up 4 receptions for 103 yards. Logan Bader helped Aurora's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 31 yards.
On the heels of Payton Rawlins and Graham, Seneca has had great success on offense. Rawlins is tops in the league in passing with 1,112 yards, while Graham has rushed for 737 yards this season. Doug Buckmaster's team's Matt Magee leads the league in receiving yards with 450 on 28 catches.
The most important game in the league this week will be the match up between Lamar and the Bulldogs. The Tigers enters the game ranked 10th in the state, while Carl Junction ranks 17th.
The Bulldogs' offense has racked up 249 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while Lamar has allowed only 35 on the year.
Scott Bailey's team took down Butler 74-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
