Valley View extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 4-12. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Wyoming Valley West Spartans. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2022.
Aiden Mills spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on nine hits.
At the plate, Valley View saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jonathan Anuszewski, who went 3-for-4 with one double.
As for Wyoming Valley West, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.
On Wyoming Valley West's side, Kaden Dubaskas tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Dubaskas has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, D'Vonte Rivers was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. He has become a key player for Wyoming Valley West: the team is 8-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-6 otherwise. Damien Eastman was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.
Valley View didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 5-2 defeat against Scranton Prep on the 4th. As for Wyoming Valley West, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 6-2 win against Berwick on the 4th.
