Basketball Recap: Abigael Derricotte's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Northern over Huntingtown

If Northern was feeling good fresh off their 46-18 takedown of Patuxent on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Patriots fell 32-27 to the Huntingtown Hurricanes on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Patriots in their meetings with the Hurricanes: they've now lost three in a row.

Northern lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Abigael Derricotte, who posted eight points and three steals. Derricotte is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Erin Murphy, who put up five points and nine boards.

It was another big night for Eva Powell, who shot 50% from the field en route to 12 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals for Huntingtown. The dominant performance also gave Powell a new career-high in blocks (three). Another player making a difference was Hannah Graham, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 15 boards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Northern fell to 2-1. As for Huntingtown, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Northern and Winters Mill will compete for holiday cheer on Wednesday. As for Huntingtown, they will venture away from home to square off against Chopticon at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
