The Robinson Rams will head out on the road to square off against the West Springfield Spartans at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 12 consecutive losses for Robinson and seven for the Spartans.
Last Thursday, Robinson came up short against the Stallions and fell 61-52. While losing is never fun, Robinson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while the Stallions are ranked 82nd).
Despite their loss, Robinson saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Scott Van antwerp, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Matteen Rahim, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, West Springfield was just a bucket shy of victory on Thursday and fell 41-40 to the Cavaliers. West Springfield has struggled against the Cavaliers recently, as their match on Thursday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Robinson dropped their record down to 5-15 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home. As for West Springfield, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.
Robinson came up short against the Spartans when the teams last played back in January, falling 57-51. Can Robinson avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
