Reed is a perfect 10-0 against Hug since January of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Raiders will square off against the Hawks at 7:00 p.m. Reed has given up an average of 55.9 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Reed is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Reno on Monday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Raiders took a blow against the Huskies, falling 80-52. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Huskies are ranked tenth).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Jacoby Harms, who shot 45% from the field on his way to 14 points. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Xavier Hoffman was another key player, putting up eight points.
Meanwhile, Hug was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were outmatched by Spanish Springs and fell 78-44. The Hawks were down 64-35 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Like Reed, Hug lost despite seeing results from several players. Elijah Herbert led the charge by dropping a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds. The matchup was Herbert's fourth in a row with at least 15 points. Eric Vargas also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.
Reed now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Hug, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-9.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Reed has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26 boards per game. However, it's not like Hug struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Reed came out on top in a nail-biter against Hug in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, sneaking past 51-49. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Hawks' Amari Davis, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 15 boards. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Raiders to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
