Firelands is 9-1 against Wellington since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Falcons will look to defend their home field against the Dukes at 5:00 p.m. Firelands will be strutting in after a win while Wellington will be coming in after a loss.
Firelands is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Oberlin on Monday as they made off with a 21-6 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Falcons needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Firelands got a massive performance out of Aaron Bower, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Radanovich, who went 2-for-3 with six RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Firelands always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .675. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Wellington fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Columbia on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Raiders. The Dukes' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Gabe Toth was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Toth was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
In other batting news, Johnnie Kinter made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Grant Kehl, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Firelands' win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-5-1. As for Wellington, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.
Everything went Firelands' way against Wellington when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Firelands made off with a 10-0 victory. Do the Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dukes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
