5A Continental recap November 5, 2013
Regis Jesuit took down Fort Collins 49-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Matt Houghtaling threw for 46 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 169 yards during the win.
Douglas County led 5A Continental in scoring this week after putting up 64 points on Legend. Trey Smith ran for 216 yards and caught 3 passes for 34 yards in the win.
Eric Banzhaf made the biggest impact on defense this week as Highlands Ranch fell to Smoky Hill. The 6-foot-2 senior grabbed 2 sacks.
Brody Westmoreland was a passing and rushing force as ThunderRidge topped Castle View. He completed 6 passes for 113 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 119 yards. Westmoreland's favorite target this week was Matt Stanley, who caught 3 passes for 77 yards.
Smith was a force in the backfield as the Huskies bested the Titans.
Brock Rubley put up the best numbers in passing as Mountain Vista lost to Fairview. He finished with 18 completions for 176 yards and 1 touchdown. Rubley's favorite target this week was Rocco Palumbo, who caught 9 passes for 78 yards.
6-foot-2 quarterback Keaton Thames of the Falcons is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,729. He has also thrown 20 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Mark Hopper. The ThunderRidge star has 44 catches for 863 yards.
Chaparral made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 2,800 from 3,319. The improvement was the result of a 42-21 victory over Horizon last week.
