If the Hernando Leopards were feeling good off their 46-8 takedown of the Central Bears last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Hernando fell just short of Weeki Wachee by a score of 56-54. Hernando has struggled against Weeki Wachee recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Hernando's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kayla Holloman, who scored 18 points. Aislin Ruppe was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Weeki Wachee got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Paige Atwater out in front who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Atwater has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joelys Rodriguez, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten assists.
Hernando has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-10 record this season. As for Weeki Wachee, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hernando will play host again and welcome Hudson, where tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Hudson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday. As for Weeki Wachee, Weeki Wachee and Nature Coast Tech will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 25th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Nature Coast Tech is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road.
