Softball Recap: Grenada Has No Trouble Against Lake Cormorant

Grenada won the last time they faced Lake Cormorant and things went their way on Thursday too. The Grenada Chargers blew past Lake Cormorant 11-1. Considering the Chargers have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Mary Taylour Wilbourn made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Olivia Lashley was a standout: she scored four runs while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Ac Poynor was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.

Grenada kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Grenada's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lake Cormorant, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-8.

Coming up, Grenada will challenge New Hope at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Grenada's pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so New Hope's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lake Cormorant, they will be taking part in a tournament against Northpoint Christian at 8:30 p.m. on Friday.
