The Kentwood Conquerors will square off against the Auburn Riverside Ravens at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Kentwood is looking for their season's first win.
Kentwood managed to slip by Tahoma the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Conquerors came up short against the Bears on Thursday, falling 20-2. Conquerors fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Bears since on Thursday.
Ell Sakai made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Auburn Riverside made easy work of Kennedy Catholic on Monday and carried off a 17-2 victory. The Ravens haven't had any issues with the Lancers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Danica Butler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season.
In other pitching news, Kylee Curtis looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single walk in five consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Hannah Potter was incredible, firing off three home runs, eight RBI, and two doubles while going 5-for-6. Sloan Cross was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances.
Auburn Riverside lost a few balls and finished the game with five home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Auburn Riverside pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.8 runs over those games. As for Kentwood, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
Kentwood skirted past Auburn Riverside 2-1 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Conquerors repeat their success, or do the Ravens have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
