It was a good run, but the Southwestern Piasa Birds unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell to Roxana 53-48. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Southwestern in their matchups with Roxana: they've now lost nine in a row.
Ian Brantley and Rocky Darr certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Brantley scored 16 points along with 8 rebounds, while Darr scored 12 points. The game was Brantley's sixth in a row with at least ten points.
Southwestern struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Roxana racked up 13.
Roxana found their leader in underclassman Sean Maberry, who scored 14 points along with 8 rebounds and 6 assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Briggs, who scored 11 points.
Southwestern's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Roxana, they have yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 4-2 record.
Southwestern will take on Calhoun at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Roxana, they will head out on the road to face off against Freeburg at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Freeburg focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Thursday.
