Carter is on a three-game streak of home losses, Gibbs a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Carter Green Hornets will take on the Gibbs Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Friday, Carter was beaten by Fulton 81-32. While losing is never fun, Carter can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 242nd, while Fulton is ranked 17th).
Meanwhile, Gibbs pushed their score all the way to 69 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to Union County on the road by a decisive 84-69 margin. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (65), Gibbs still had to take the loss.
Despite the defeat, Gibbs had strong showings from Zack Turner, who scored 24 points along with eight assists, and Mason Melton, who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Melton has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kamen Shown, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Carter has not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-16 record this season. As for Gibbs, their loss dropped their record down to 11-14.
Carter strolled past Gibbs when the teams last played back in December of 2023 by a score of 69-54. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Turner, who scored 19 points along with six assists. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Carter still be able to contain Turner? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
