Niobrara/Verdigre had to kick off their season with an away game, and unfortunately wound up with a long bus ride home. They were given a punishing 8-72 loss at the hands of Stuart. Niobrara/Verdigre were in a tough position by the half, with the score sitting at 8-56.
Junior Grant Pease, who rushed for 180 yards and 3 touchdowns, was a major factor in the success. Senior Chance Engel was in the mix, too, providing Stuart with with 2 touchdowns. This was the first contest for both squads, starting Niobrara/Verdigre off on the wrong foot at 0-1, while giving Stuart a 1-0 record.
Next week, Niobrara/Verdigre take on Hartington-Newcastle at 7:00 PM. As for Stuart, they will face of against Boyd County. Keep an eye on the score for this one : both teams put up some lofty point totals in their previous games, so things might heat up even more when they meet up next week.
