The Briggs Bruins will head out on the road to square off against the Whitehall-Yearling Rams at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. Briggs is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 15.6 runs per game this season.
Briggs let Africentric Early College stack nine runs on them in the fourth inning on Friday but luckily Briggs prevailed anyway. The Bruins blew past the Nubians 17-10. The victory was familiar territory for the Bruins, who have now won three matchups in a row.
Maddy Glenn made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Glenn wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nemo Lopez, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one double. Lopez continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another was Rilee Flowers, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Briggs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .619. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Whitehall-Yearling couldn't beat Worthington Christian on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the third inning. The Rams lost 18-8 to the Warriors. The Rams haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
Aubree Waites was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaelyn Dempsey, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Whitehall-Yearling's loss dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Briggs, their record is now 14-3.
Whitehall-Yearling's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Briggs has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Whitehall-Yearling, though, as they've been averaging 9.8 hits. Given Briggs' sizable advantage in that area, the Rams will need to find a way to close that gap.
Briggs suffered a grim 19-5 defeat to Whitehall-Yearling in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Bruins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
