May River has been on the road for four straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Hilton Head Island Seahawks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Tuesday, May River came up short against Colleton County and fell 61-52.
Despite the loss, May River had strong showings from Joshua Hunter, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Gage Duncan, who scored 19 points along with six assists. That's the first time this season that Hunter pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanner Macy, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Hilton Head Island pushed their score all the way to 60 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 68-60 to Lucy Beckham. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Hilton Head Island in their matchups with Lucy Beckham: they've now lost four in a row.
May River's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Hilton Head Island, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.
May River was able to grind out a solid win over Hilton Head Island when the teams last played back in January of 2023, winning 64-54. Will May River repeat their success, or does Hilton Head Island have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
