Colton is 9-1 against Pomeroy since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Wildcats will challenge the Pirates at 2:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Colton has seven straight victories, Pomeroy has 16 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Saturday, Colton got the win against Rosalia by a conclusive 23-3. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by nine runs or more this season.
Clair Moehrle was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Moehrle was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Ella Nollmeyer was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Holly Heitstuman, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Colton lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Pomeroy lost 19-9 to Rosalia on Monday.
Colton's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.8 runs over those games. As for Pomeroy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-13.
Pomeroy's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Colton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Pomeroy, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Colton keep running through batters, or will the Pirates buck the trend?
Colton took their win against Pomeroy in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 23-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
