The power rankings have experienced a modest tune-up after last week's playoff battles. That and more in this week's report.
No Stoppin 'Em
It was another game, another high-octane performance for Johnson Central last week (their 4th in a row). It put the hurt on Knox Central with a conclusive 59 - 20 victory. Johnson Central did have the odds in its favor, but the team did even better than the MaxPreps state rankings indicated. The combined 79 points was the most of any game featuring a power-ranked team.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of the hottest tickets last week involved the clash between Male (4th in the power rankings) and Trinity (13th). Male got a somewhat close 27 - 20 victory over Trinity. Even if it didn't bump Male up the rankings, the win at least kept the team from dropping.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Covington Catholic (1st in the power rankings) and South Warren (2nd). Both teams have their heads held high after dominating their previous opponents. Both the Covington Catholic and South Warren defenses have allowed few points this year (averaging 10 ppg and 9.53 ppg, respectively), so the teams might find scoring more difficult than usual this week.
