Coldspring-Oakhurst (Coldspring, Texas) grabbed the lead when
Alfred Scott ran for a touchdown with less than a minute remaining in the fifth quarter and held on to beat
La Marque (Texas) 27-21 on Saturday. The score was the final lead change in a back-and-forth contest that featured two lead swaps.
The Cougars pulled ahead on a touchdown run, and subsequently went into halftime leading 14-13. The Trojans scored the winning points with a Scott touchdown run that came in the fifth quarter.
Despite scoring zero points in the third, Coldspring-Oakhurst still trailed by 8 points going into the fourth quarter. But eight points in the fourth helped CO pull out the victory.
Scott was the top performer for the Coldspring school. The senior quarterback ran for three touchdowns. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
The defeat comes as a step back for La Marque, which notched a 34-21 victory over Texas City in its previous outing. The win was a nice bounce back for the Trojans, which lost to Navasota last week, 36-8. The loss snapped La Marque's 2-game winning streak.
In a non-conference game next week La Marque (2-1) takes on Lamar Consolidated, and Coldspring-Oakhurst (2-1) will go up against Little Cypress-Mauriceville also in a non-conference game.
