The Eastwood Troopers will head out on the road to take on the Coronado Thunderbirds at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Eastwood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 last Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Eastwood was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 49-45 to Pebble Hills.
Eastwood's defeat came about despite a quality game from Amaya Williams, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Williams is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Itzel Caro, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Coronado's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 71-32 defeat at the hands of Pebble Hills. Coronado has not had much luck with Pebble Hills recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Eastwood's loss ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 18-5. As for Coronado, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost nine of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season.
Everything went Eastwood's way against Coronado when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as Eastwood made off with a 57-34 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Eastwood since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
