Garden Valley extended the longest winning streak in 1A Long Pin (8 Man) this week by beating Council, 8-6. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Wolverines.
The Lumberjacks made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 626 from 683. The improvement came about via a 8-6 victory over Council last week.
Dan Shumway's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Mick Wilson threw for 93 and one touchdown and Kevin Heil had 40 yards receiving. On the ground Nate Henderson chipped in 127 yards. Corbin Hedges helped Council's passing attack out by catching five balls for 31 yards.
5-foot-7 quarterback ALFONSO CASTELLANOS of Wilder is the league leader in passing yards this season with 414. He has also thrown four touchdowns. On the ground, the Lumberjacks' Henderson has rushed for 1038 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Lance Jones. The Garden Valley star has 16 catches for 279 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Cascade takes on Garden Valley. At the moment, the Ramblers are in seventh, while the Wolverines are in first.
Horseshoe Bend led 1A Long Pin (8 Man) in scoring this week after putting up 56 points on Tri-Valley.
