Arch Manning guy, right?
Turns out the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year in football is also part of a pretty cool story on the hardwood at
Newman (New Orleans).
Coached by 1993 McDonald's All-American and former NBA player Randy Livingston, the Greenies are preparing to play in the quarterfinal round of Louisiana's Division III high school basketball state tournament. Newman meets Holy Savior Menard (Alexandria) on Friday in its bid to advance.
Lockett Jr., a 6-foot-4 guard, participated in a minicamp last October with USA Basketball. 247Sports reports at least two Division I offers already from Baylor and Houston.
Manning is coming off a rookie campaign on the gridiron where he threw for over 2,400 yards and 34 touchdowns en route to national top frosh honors.
Newman's last title came as part of a three-year run of state championships from 1991-93. Livingston, who was considered by some to be high school basketball's top prospect as a senior, starred on those teams alongside brothers Cooper – Arch's dad – and Peyton Manning.
